Under the regulatory regime of the OTC derivatives market, phase 1 reporting requirements took effect from 10 July 2015, which covered certain interest rate swaps and foreign exchange non-deliverable forwards. The regime provides for a gateway for the Monetary Authority to disclose in the form of a summary compiled from data collected by the trade repository under the mandatory reporting obligation (Securities and Futures (Amendment) Ordinance 2014 Section 381B(4)). In order to improve the transparency of the OTC derivatives market, the HKTR have prepared for public disclosure two sets of reports, namely the outstanding positions report and the turnover report, of each product class mandated under the Securities and Futures (OTC Derivative Transaction -- Reporting and Record Keeping Obligations) Rules. Starting from 1st April 2018, Public Disclosure Reports are published weekly to provide a snapshot as of the close-of-business of the last business day of each week (API Available).
Public Disclosure Reports until March 2018 were published monthly as of the close-of-business of the last business day of each month.
Notes:
- The published data include statistics aggregated from transaction records collected by the Hong Kong Trade Repository (HKTR) under regulatory reporting of the OTC derivatives regime. The phase 1 reporting rules took effect on 10 July 2015 with a 3-month grace period for reporting outstanding transactions until 10 October 2015. Some transactions were submitted in later months as certain technical problems were being resolved by some institutions.
- The published data cover certain interest rate swaps (fixed vs floating, basis swap and overnight index swap) and foreign exchange non-deliverable forwards. As such they are not exhaustive of all derivatives in the asset classes of interest rates and foreign exchange.
- The published data are as received by the HKTR and are not subject to revision.
- Definitions used are specifically used for the compilation of the HKTR data and they may not be the same as in other studies or surveys.
- Turnover reports for the period from July 2015 to May 2016 were revised on 16 May 2017.
- Position reports for the period from 2 November 2018 to 23 November 2018 were revised on 7 December 2018.
- Position reports for the period from 21 September 2018 to 26 October 2018 were revised on 14 December 2018.
